"Go! Go! Kindness" is a project created by M. Tremblay's grade 6 class. The class is registered to participate in a program sponsored by The Learning Partnership called the Entrepreneurial Adventure.
Some of the goals of this program are to help students develop their critical and creative thinking, tap into their spirit of adventure, risk taking as well as their sense of satisfaction. As students work through the project, they experience the challenges of working in collaboration with their classmates, and develop a greater appreciation for team work. Through meetings, discussions, marketing, sales and other activities, students develop their leadership skills. In the long run, the outcomes of the program benefit everyone involved, and culminates in funds being raised to support a special cause.
We have done many things to be kind to others since January 4th. For example, we joined the class of Mrs. Louise Cesario and the student leaders of Mary Honeywell E.S. along with four other schools to take part in a Kindness Campaign. We surpassed our goal of 10,000 Random Acts of Kindness and performed 11 800 of them. from January 4th to February 19th. Our class performed acts of kindness in the first week of the campaign, such as going around classes and asking if they needed any help. During the second week, we sent out the Kindness Patrol from class to class to promote our campaign and register acts of kindness from other students. We also gave free coffee out to the EDP parents one morning, courtesy of Starbucks on Woodroffe and Strandherd.
Another act of kindness our class performed was going to the Ottawa Food Bank where we sorted food to help people fight hunger. We also did the same thing in our school, in December, because students had brought in food for what turned out to be our school's most successful drive ever. Overall, we raised 2,500 pounds of food.
During the last week of January and throughout the month of February, we each knitted scarves, with the help of volunteers from Kind Canada, an organization that heard about our campaign and contacted our teacher to ask him if he would like to join and knit scarves for the newly arrived Syrian refugees that came to Canada over the past three months. We did this because most of the refugees are not used to this climate, therefore they don't have any warm clothing articles for the winter.
We have lots of activities in store for everyone at our school to continue promoting kindness, generosity, caring and support for our sister school, Charles H. Hulse. Please refer to our Calendar page to find out about each upcoming event.
Thank you for you time and we hope you can all take part in this campaign to help the less fortunate.
